Reviewer's Thoughts:
In all honesty, I was a bit disappointed with this map but I still would like to point out (in my opinion) the good, the bad, and the ugly of this map. First of all I want to say that this map definitely has some breathing space and can easily accommodate 8 (maybe more) players. You are usually (if lucky) spawned at one of the top tiers of the level to be instantly rewarded with a superhealth and some arsenal to get you going, however, you are forced to go down the chute to get where the action is. The floor of the level consists of a series of depressions, laden with ammo and weapons, so you are never short on fire and the depressions can be used as cover and as a hiding space to sneak up on opponents. Like most arena maps the map is essentially devoid of health (with the exception of the superhealths) and makes staying alive a bit more of a challenge and keeps the game a bit more fast-paced. The overall geometry of the map shows moderate knowledge of UnrealEd's capabilities but perhaps in a more monotonous manner (i.e. each depression is identical to its neighbors). Although the point of the map was likely to have a lot of open space, I would have liked to see more central structures, such as a center column that you could go up or even floating ledges or something. I thought that the textures chosen made sense and followed suit, but the alignment was poor in areas and like the geometry, somewhat uniform and monotone. The ambience was further brought down by a lack of creative and thought out lighting. Although more than sufficient to see opponents, it added absolutely nothing to the level. In my journey as a level editor, I know that I will come across maps from all avenues, many of which are difficult to contrast with each-other. Although some of the feedback in this article may be negative, one should not doubt that this level may be a whole bunch of fun to play for many players out there.
